Automatic Visitor Counter in National Museum of Korea

If you want to visit National Museum of Korea, you don't have to pay the entrance fee. Yes, It is free. Last Tuesday, my first visit, I went there without paying any entrance fee. Although it's free, I thought I would still receive an entrance ticket, like other museums, and as I know, this museum also uses this system to tally the number of visitors. But I was wrong. Starting from that day, National Museum of Korea applied a new system to tally the number of visitors. The museum installed an automatic visitor counter so that the visitors don't need to stand in long lines only to receive an entrance ticket. It collects information through a camera that automatically detects visitors' faces and estimates their age to add to the count. This is the first time to be applied in a place for cultural activities. However, if you want to go to the children's museum inside National Museum of Korea or to the other special exhibitions, you still have to purchase the entrance ticket.

The National Museum of Korea is one of the largest museums in the world in terms of floor space and also the largest museum in Asia in terms of number of visitors per year.
